Healthy Eats: Brown Butter Honey Salmon

Since I do like to eat, and I love food so much it’s very important for me to incorporate some healthy options here and there. I am also in the process of gaining weight and building muscle and it’s important for me to get in a lot of protein, moderate carbs, and minimal sugar.

When grocery shopping, I always prefer the most natural and whole foods, I made salmon, sauteed squash, mashed sweet potatoes and sauteed spinach. I like wild caught salmon over farm raised and if its available I prefer sockeye over Atlantic it provides a better taste to me.

I started by peeling and boiling my sweet potatoes, washed my spinach and salmon. Seasoned my salmon with sea salt, pepper, blackened seasoning, and garlic powder. I put half a stick of butter in my cast iron, about 2 tablespoons of garlic and 2 tablespoons of honey. I waited on the garlic to turn brown and release this almost nutty aroma and I placed my salmon fillets face down in the skillet. I went ahead and cut up my squash in round pieces at the same time I put my spinach in a skillet with some garlic, olive oil, sea salt, pepper, garlic, and onion powder. I sauteed my squash with olive oil and seasoned with salt, pepper, and garlic butter seasoning. For my mashed sweet potatoes, I added my butter made from grass fed cows, honey, and a dash of salt to help tie the flavors together. I would usually put brown sugar in my sweet potatoes, but honey is always a great alternative.
